About Ruttger's

Minnesota’s Original Family Resort

You’re like family here and we welcome you to share in the warmth of our hearth and hearts because that’s the Ruttger’s way. It always has been and always will be.

Ruttger's History

Joseph Ruttger began a century-plus tradition when he opened the resort on the shores of Bay Lake in 1898. The resort began humbly when Joseph and his wife Josephine opened their Bay Lake home to weary travelers and fishermen and shared a home-cooked meal.

Enough people enjoyed Josephine's food that word spread, and soon people were coming from far and wide to enjoy the beauty and relaxation of Minnesota’s lake country, a nice meal and Ruttger’s legendary hospitality.

Ruttger's History Told by Jack Ruttger

You're Welcome Here

Ruttger’s has grown over the years, adding Minnesota’s first resort golf course in 1921, and then a second 18-hole championship course, but the essence of Ruttger’s remains the same as the day Joseph first opened his home to fishermen.

The peace of a northern Minnesota lake, time spent with the ones you love, a good meal, and a warm and welcoming smile.
