But just in case you want to do a little exploring, the Cuyuna and Brainerd Lakes Area do offer many exciting things for the whole family to enjoy. With a wide range of attractions, such as Cuyuna's mine pit lakes, scuba diving, walking and biking trails, and the Serpent Lake and Milford Mine Memorial parks, everyone will find something they love.
The Cuyuna Country
The Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails are near Crosby-Ironton, Minnesota, only eight miles from Ruttger’s. The 22-mile trail winds through a rugged area created by 70 years of former iron ore mining. It consists of deep water-filled old mining pits and tall piles of excavated rock and mining debris. Nature has beautifully reclaimed the area, truly making this area a one-of-a-kind mountain biking trail. Mountain bike rentals are available in nearby Crosby.
The Cuyuna Lakes State Recreational Area incorporates both paved and off-road walking and riding paths to take visitors through the regenerated iron ore mining land.
The Mine Lakes are considered one of the very finest in scuba diving adventures in the Midwest, and offer upwards of forty feet visibility.
Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, just 23 miles from Ruttger’s, offers visitors a beautiful trail system packed with historic monuments and abundant wild life.
Entertainment and Shopping
After you’ve shopped at the Ruttger’s stores, check out downtown Crosby’s antique stores, gift shops, and the lakeside park with a playground and beach.
Ripple River Gallery is just down the road from Ruttger’s, The gallery displays the work of regional artisans.
Grand Makwa Theater in Onamia features three screens playing new movies and stadium seating.
Lakes 12 in Brainerd features all stadium seating and full digital projection.
Paul Bunyan Land and This Old Farm offer 35 rides and attractions including the world’s largest talking and animated man. Located on Highway 18, only 12 miles from Ruttger’s, this is one of the tourist attractions in the Brainerd Lakes area you don’t want to miss!
Traditions Mini Golf offers 18 holes of premium mini golf, batting cage, water wars, and more. Located 4 miles north of Ruttger’s in Deerwood.
Heartland Hockey Camp
Heartland Hockey Camp is the official hockey camp of Ruttger’s.
You are in the State of Hockey. Check out North America’s leading hockey camp, just 3 miles north of Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge. Heartland Hockey Camp was established in 1985 by Steve and Sandy Jensen. Heartland Hockey Camp is dedicated to providing world class hockey instruction and a wide variety of waterfront activities for hockey players worldwide — while enhancing the spiritual well-being & emotional growth of each individual camper.
